News You Can Use from Mrs. Tomaszewski

February 11, 2021

Dear Sacred Heart Parents,

I hope you are all doing well and staying warm!  Just a reminder that there is NO school tomorrow, February 12th while our teachers are participating in professional development workshops.  There is also NO school on Monday, February 15th for President’s Day.  I hope that everyone enjoys the 4 day weekend with their children!  HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY TO EACH OF YOU!!  Please know that your Sacred Heart Family appreciates you!

Progress Reports come home today!

Please check your child’s Thursday folder.  The 3rd Quarter Progress reports are being sent home today.  We are half-way through the 3rd quarter.  Now is the time to speak to your child’s teacher if you have any concerns.  We have several weeks left for students to improve their progress or continue their success!   Please sign one copy and return it to your child’s teacher, the other copy is for you to keep.

Student Absences

As you know, it is critical that we, as a school, are aware of your child’s absence.  It is the parent’s responsibility to call the school at 773-768-3728 to report their child(ren) absent.  Please note that if you do not call your child(ren) in to school absent by 9am and they are not in school, we will be making a phone call to check in with you.  This includes our e-learners as well.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Black History Month

February is Black History Month!  Teachers will be incorporating lessons into their classes to acknowledge and learn about the culture, heritage and the contributions of African Americans.  We will also be joining the Archdiocese of Chicago in a weekly Prayer Service on Fridays at 10am.  For those parents and E-Learners, please log in and join us!  Here is the information and the link:

The Archdiocese will celebrate the 43rd Annual African American Heritage Prayer Service virtually throughout February in a series of prayer service videos every Friday at 10 a.m. Due to the pandemic, Catholic schools around the archdiocese will gather online to pray and celebrate African American heritage, culture, community and contributions to the Church. The theme for this year’s prayer services is We Are Called: Umoja for Black Lives, Justice, and Peace. See more about the prayer service, the African American Heritage Awards and link to join.

Do you want to earn $350 off of your school tuition???

Refer a new family to our school and you will earn $350 off your tuition next school year if they register and stay for at least one semester.  Help us grow our enrollment!!!  The new family must name you as the referring family when they register.  Parent word of mouth is our best advertising.  PLEASE share the good news about Sacred Heart School!  We need your help!  THANK YOU for your support.

How Can You help Sacred Heart School?

We are always focused on increasing our enrollment here at Sacred Heart School.  How can you help?  SPREAD THE WORD!  Invite a friend whose kids are in public school, let them know how happy you are to have your kids here at Sacred Heart and invite them to call and tour our school.  Happy parents are our best advertisers.  THANK YOU for your help in spreading the good news about our school!

We are so excited to announce our after school tutoring program has begun on Wednesdays from 3-4pm for students in Grades 1-8. The focus will be on Vocabulary strategies, Reading strategies and comprehension.  Due to the funding secured for this program, enrollment is limited. Teachers have identified and invited students based on academic need and the availability of spots.  Students need to commit to weekly tutoring from now until the middle of May.  If you have not been contacted by your child’s teacher and have concerns about your child’s academic progress, please reach out to the teacher. After talking with the teacher, a decision will be made based on the student’s need and the number of available spots in the class.

Volunteer Hours

During normal times, when there is not a pandemic, each family is obligated to complete 25 hours of volunteer service to Sacred Heart School/Parish as a part of your tuition contract. Any hours not completed result in a $20 per hour fee  At this time, due to the Covid-19 situation, we are temporarily reducing the number of hours to 10 hours this year because of the lack of opportunities available for us to gather. Any hours not completed will result in your family being charged $20 per hour. We will evaluate the situation and make adjustments as time goes on should the situation change and restrictions are lifted.  For now, you have three options available to volunteer.  The first is to work at a weekend Mass.  Your responsibilities would be to arrive early to greet people and spray everyone’s hands with sanitizer.  After Mass, the pews that were used would then be cleaned and sanitized.  The second opportunity would be to work at school lunch.  We would allow 2 people per day.  Your responsibilities would be to monitor students, walk around with the garbage cans and help clean tables and chairs after students have eaten.  Sorry, NO small children may be brought with you during the lunch periods. The time for lunch volunteers would be from 11am-12pm.  Click here to volunteer for lunch:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050B4DADA62DA6FD0-december To volunteer to help at Mass click the link below  and indicate in the comments that you are signing up to help and receive volunteer hours:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050b4dada62da6fd0-sunday

Thank you, in advance, for your service to our school and parish.  The third opportunity is to  send in 4 cases of bottled water which will equal 1 hour of service.   We greatly appreciate your commitment to Sacred Heart!  As more projects and opportunities become available, I will post them in my newsletter, which you can always view on our website.

 Have a great weekend!

TAX CREDITS red Rubber Stamp over a white background. The State of Illinois created a tax credit scholarship program through the “Invest in Kids” Act that is mutually beneficial to students and donors. It provides a 75 percent Illinois State income tax credit to individuals who contribute money to fund scholarships for students to attend private schools. Eligible students from low-income families in Illinois may use these scholarships to attend a non-public school of their choice, including Sacred Heart School. For every dollar donated to this program through Empower Illinois between Dec. 1, 2019 and Feb. 29, 2020 and designated to a school operated by the Archdiocese of Chicago will be matched with two dollars from a matching pool
