News You Can Use from Mrs. Tomaszewski

 January 15 , 2021

 Dear Sacred Heart Parents,

Well, we have made it through our 2 weeks of E-Learning!  Thank you for your support during this time.  For anyone who has traveled during E-Learning, please note that you must report your travel situation to the school office.  Domestic travel quarantine is now 10 days or 7 days with written proof of a negative Covid test taken within three days PRIOR to returning to Chicago.  International travel quarantine is still 14 days.  Please report the day of your return to the school office if it was anytime after January 3rd so that we may inform you of the date you may return to school. Students who need to quarantine will need to participate in E-Learning until the quarantine period is over.  Thank you for your support and assistance in keeping our school community safe and healthy!

2nd Quarter ends today

Today was the final day of the 2nd Quarter.  The third quarter will begin on Tuesday.  Report Cards will be sent home next Friday, January 22nd.

Catholic Schools Week

Catholic Schools Week will begin on Sunday, January 31st at our 9:30am Family Mass.  Please register for a seat at mass on the church website, www.sacredheartcroatian.org.  Students who wear their school uniform to church will receive a free dress down pass after Mass from their teacher.  Families who bring a prospective family to Mass on January 31st and introduce them to Mrs. Tomaszewski will receive a $50 tuition credit.  Prospective families will then be offered a private tour of our school.  Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, we will not be having our usual Open House for everyone after Mass.  Please look at the attached flyer for all of the different themes and events of the week.

Do you want to earn $350 off of your school tuition???

Refer a new family to our school and you will earn $350 off your tuition next school year if they register and stay for at least one semester.  Help us grow our enrollment!!!  The new family must name you as the referring family when they register.  Parent word of mouth is our best advertising.  PLEASE share the good news about Sacred Heart School!  We need your help!  THANK YOU for your support.

Survey for parents

As we plan for the future, I am asking for your feedback regarding the possibility of offering Spanish class as a special for next school year.  I know that many of our students speak or understand Spanish, but others do not. Some may be able to write in Spanish, but others cannot.  Finally, some do not know any Spanish at all.  Offering Spanish to all students in grades Preschool through 8th grade is something that we are considering for next school year and beyond. Keep in mind that this would be a way to introduce our students not just to the language, but to the cultural aspects as well.  As it would likely be held only once per week, it would be a basic introduction to help them prepare for High School, college and beyond.  Please click here to take this simple one question anonymous survey:  https://forms.gle/P9FkBwKQ9533bE5WA

3rd Quarter begins on Tuesday….E-Learners are welcome to return and WE NEED TO KNOW ASAP!

Everyone has been so great about wearing appropriate masks to school.  I thank you for being compliant and helping to keep everyone healthy and safe!  From now on, students and staff may wear any mask they would like, any day of the week (as long as it is appropriate for school and does not cause a distraction to learning).  THANK YOU for your cooperation and for following the rules each day!  Just a reminder….parents and others who are picking up their children MUST wear a mask at dismissal.  Thank you!

Cases of Water needed...get service hours!

Our students have been asking on a daily basis for a bottle of water.  Every student should be bringing their own refillable water bottle each day, but unfortunately many are forgetting. When they forget, they ask us for a bottle from the office.  Therefore, we need more water to accomodate the need.  If you would like to earn 1 hour of service (toward your mandatory 10 hours this year), you may send in 4 cases of bottled water and we will credit you for 1 hour of service.  Please, only 1 hour (4 cases) per family.  Any additional cases sent in beyond 4 will earn a dress down pass.  Thank you, in advance, for your generosity and assistance!

Volunteer Hours

During normal times, when there is not a pandemic, each family is obligated to complete 25 hours of volunteer service to Sacred Heart School/Parish as a part of your tuition contract. Any hours not completed result in a $20 per hour fee  At this time, due to the Covid-19 situation, we are temporarily reducing the number of hours to 10 hours this year because of the lack of opportunities available for us to gather. Any hours not completed will result in your family being charged $20 per hour. We will evaluate the situation and make adjustments as time goes on should the situation change and restrictions are lifted.  For now, you have three options available to volunteer.  The first is to work at a weekend Mass.  Your responsibilities would be to arrive early to greet people and spray everyone’s hands with sanitizer.  After Mass, the pews that were used would then be cleaned and sanitized.  The second opportunity would be to work at school lunch.  We would allow 2 people per day.  Your responsibilities would be to monitor students, walk around with the garbage cans and help clean tables and chairs after students have eaten.  Sorry, NO small children may be brought with you during the lunch periods. The time for lunch volunteers would be from 11am-12pm.  Click here to volunteer for lunch:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050B4DADA62DA6FD0-december To volunteer to help at Mass click the link below  and indicate in the comments that you are signing up to help and receive volunteer hours:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050b4dada62da6fd0-sunday

Thank you, in advance, for your service to our school and parish.  The third opportunity is to  send in 4 cases of bottled water which will equal 1 hour of service.   We greatly appreciate your commitment to Sacred Heart!  As more projects and opportunities become available, I will post them in my newsletter, which you can always view on our website.

The State of Illinois created a tax credit scholarship program through the “Invest in Kids” Act that is mutually beneficial to students and donors. It provides a 75 percent Illinois State income tax credit to individuals who contribute money to fund scholarships for students to attend private schools. Eligible students from low-income families in Illinois may use these scholarships to attend a non-public school of their choice, including Sacred Heart School. For every dollar donated to this program through Empower Illinois between Dec. 1, 2019 and Feb. 29, 2020 and designated to a school operated by the Archdiocese of Chicago will be matched with two dollars from a matching pool....Click here for more information
