News You Can Use from Mrs. Tomaszewski

October 16, 2020

 Dear Sacred Heart Parents,

Thank you for your support of our school walk-a-thon!  It was so much fun!  The students, teachers and staff had a blast walking to raise money for our wonderful school!  KUDOS to our parent volunteers who graciously worked at each corner crossing the students and keeping them safe.  We could not have done it without you!  We are so lucky to have such special parents who are willing to lend a hand.  We will announce the winners and our total raised on Monday.

Due to the Election and the fact that Sacred Heart School is used as a Polling Place, we will not have school on Tuesday, November 3rd.  Please mark your calendars.  This was not originally a day off, but due to our Covid Safety Protocols, we cannot have students and staff in the building that day with the voters and election judges.  After the election is over, the hall and bathrooms will be cleaned and sanitized before school begins the next day.

Taffy Apple Sales

Our FSA is sponsoring a Taffy Apple and Chocolate Pretzel sale.  All ordering information is attached.  Orders and payment are due no later than Wednesday, October 28th.  If you purchase a case (or cases) of Apples or Pretzels, 50% of your purchase will go toward your mandatory $350 per family fundraising fee for the year.  (Only FULL cases will count for you to get the credit). You can buy a case or cases and sell them to family and friends!  Pick up is on 11/13 in the late afternoon.  Pick-up times will be communicated via the FSA to those who purchase (there is no school on this day due to teacher Professional Development). A second pick up opportunity will be held on Sunday, 11/15 after the 9:30am Family Mass.

The USDA announced that free meals will be available for the students (both in-person and e-learning) for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. God is good!  I’m grateful, as I’m sure you are, for this opportunity for our families to save some money this year and for our students to be provided these meals!

 Art Supply needed

Ms. Natalia Yarbrough will be our new art teacher this year.  She has requested that each student purchase their own watercolor paint set.  (Preferably Crayola brand, but if that is not possible, whatever you can find.  I do know they sell watercolors at the Dollar Store as well, just not Crayola brand, but they should work just fine.).

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Sacred Heart school is using PTCFast.com to make signups for Parent-Teacher Conferences as convenient as possible this year. Please enter the following web address into your browser window or click the link to sign up:  https://ptcfast.com/schools/Sacred_Heart_School_4

The Quarter ends on Friday, 10/23 and report cards will be sent home on Friday, October 30th. All Conferences will be held online on ZOOM on Friday, October 30th from 3pm-7pm.  Students will be dismissed that day at 1pm.  Please mark your calendars.  Your child's teacher(s) will send you a link to log in for your meeting closer to the date of conferences.  Please sign up for a meeting with your child's homeroom teacher.  Conferences will be 10 minutes long.  Parents of students in Grades 5-8 are welcome to sign up for a time with the other teachers if you have any specific questions about your child's progress in that class. Coach Pat Hogan is also available for conferences should you have any questions regarding Physical Education class or Technology class.

Parent teacher conferences are being held via ZOOM on Friday, October 30th.  Students will be dismissed at 1pm.  There will be NO after care on this date.  Please mark your calendars.

Sacred Heart School will celebrate Halloween on Friday, October 30th.  Students will be allowed to dress down in Orange and/or Black.  Clothing should be appropriate for school.  Due to Covid restrictions, we will not be serving food or allowing candy to be passed out this year.  We are also not allowed to have volunteers in the building.  Therefore, each teacher will be planning some fun activities with their class to celebrate the holiday.  Please note that October 30th is also Parent-Teacher Conference day and dismissal will take place at 1:00pm.  Please mark your calendars!

All Saints Day Mass and All Souls Day Mass

We will be attending Mass for All Saints Day on Friday, October 30th at 8am.  (All Saints Day is actually on Sunday, November 1st this year).  We will be attending Mass for All Souls Day on Monday, November 2nd at 8am.  Please join us!

Fundraising requirement

This year, each family is required to meet the $350 mandatory fundraising fee through a variety of fundraising efforts.  The next one will be the walk-a-thon next week.  Also, ongoing opportunities will be by placing orders through Market Day.

  • Buy Market Day and get 10% back or each purchase toward your fundraising fees. The credit will be applied to your fundraising fees toward the end of the school year.
  • FSA Taffy Apple Sale. For each FULL CASE purchased, 50% of your purchase goes toward your fundraising fee.

Have a wonderful weekend!  Go, Crusaders!

The State of Illinois created a tax credit scholarship program through the “Invest in Kids” Act that is mutually beneficial to students and donors. It provides a 75 percent Illinois State income tax credit to individuals who contribute money to fund scholarships for students to attend private schools. Eligible students from low-income families in Illinois may use these scholarships to attend a non-public school of their choice, including Sacred Heart School. For every dollar donated to this program through Empower Illinois between Dec. 1, 2019 and Feb. 29, 2020 and designated to a school operated by the Archdiocese of Chicago will be matched with two dollars from a matching pool....Click here for more information
